The Difficulties Subject of Linguistics

            In English Language Teaching we learn a lot of things. One is Linguistics lesson. Linguistics is study to learn about language and structure about language. As we know in Literature linguistics is very hard lesson. There are 3 difficult subject of linguistics; Syntax, Grammar, and Morphology.

The first is syntax. Syntax is lesson about study of principles and rules for constructing phrases and sentence in natural language. According Greet (2005;7) explain syntax is concerned with hoe words arrange themselves into constructions.  But many student feel syntax are very difficult lesson to be understand, many student things that the difficulties of syntax is in sentence structure and describe language. According Wikipedia the difficulty of syntax in structure sentence, in many ways student can use their language as well but they don’t know if they sentence structure is not good, especially in grammar structure.

The second is grammar. Grammar is developmental skills text intermediate to advanced students of English as a second language. Grammar promotes the developmental of all language skills in a variety of ways. According Michael Swan (2005;xix) Grammar is the rules that show how word are combined, arranged or changed to show certain kinds of meaning. In university, especially in faculty letters of English, grammar is difficult lesson because the practice is to many than the theory. That is why many student feel grammar is difficult lesson in linguistics.

The last is morphology. Morphology is the study of internal structure of words, deals with the forms of lexemes (inflections), and with the ways in which lexemes are formed (word-formations). New words are made on the basis patterns of form-meaning correspondence between exiting words. According Greet (2007:7) morphology is concerned with the forms of word themselves. In this lesson many student confused because they not understand how concerned the forms of words themselves.

To summarize, linguistics is the lesson with many difficulties subject; syntax about constructing phrases, grammar about practice and theory and morphology about structure words. So, student should learns more about linguistics, and don’t be shame asking to you lecture if you confuse. Understanding linguistics is not difficult.
