Better Attitude for Better Indonesia

Attitude is very important in our lives. We must care about attitude we act towards the society. An attitude is "a relatively enduring organization of beliefs, feelings, and behavioral tendencies towards socially significant objects, groups, events or symbols" (Hogg, & Vaughan 2005, p. 150). Attitude has a big influence to develop our lives. Good attitude will lead us to positive things and so the other way around. Therefore, attitude impact the development of the country. As a big country, Indonesia is still in the developing stage. Indonesia needs improvement in this aspect to be better country in the future.
Indonesian people have bad attitude that prevent them to build a good country. In economical aspect, Indonesia has a large number of corruption cases by government officers and national company officers. Indonesia was in the 68th position of the most corrupt country in the world, based on Corruption Index Perception in 2014. Other bad attitudes of Indonesian people are against the street law. Whenever you walked by on some crowded street in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta, you will see some cars or motorcycles which parked or stopped right beside the traffic signs. Moreover, there is a slogan widespread in the society said that “rules are made to be broken”. People are not afraid to broke the rules especially street laws because they assume that even the police officers can support them to against the laws as long as they give the officers an amount of money. This kind of bad attitude will increase te number of corruption cases in Indonesia.
What should we do for better attitude in Indonesia? There are three steps to make a better life. The first is we should start from ourselves. We can make a reflection of ourselves, whether our personality are good enough or not. We can change it into a better one. The second is we should start from the simplest one. A saying said that “a big change is come from a tiny little change”. We can not change a big country’s attitude as simple as we change our clothes, we should start from the simplest one and try to persuade our family or our friends to change a little bit better. Finally, we can start from now on, right after you read this passage.
Overall, Indonesia is a big country that has so many cultures and attitudes. There is a good quote from Charles Swindoll which may help us to know better about attitude. “The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past, we cannot change the fact that people will act in certain way we cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it, and so it is with you, we are charge of our Attitudes.”
