The Difficulties Learning English In Indonesia

Learning English is something that people all over the world do, especially in Indonesia. It is because English is an international language. Thus, we must learn English for communication with others country. There are some difficulties of learning a second language in Indonesia at least three causes: less of vocabulary, different structure, and less conversation.
The first, difficulty of learning English is less vocabulary. Usually Indonesia students are difficult to remember a lesson, for example in English, we must remember many vocabularies and sometimes we forget the vocabularies. There are two factor that influence the difficulties of learning vocabularies. The first, the students are less in listening. Listening is the easy level of learning English. We just listen carefully and try to remember the words. For example, we can listen English music, radio, and also watch movies. The second, the students are less in reading. We can also learn vocabularies by reading. Reading is good solutions if we want to have many vocabularies. For example, reading novels, newspapers, dictionaries and many more. The researcher indicates that vocabularies is important. Thus the students must know many kind of vocabularies that can help them learn English easily.
The second, English has different structures from Bahasa. There are two things that make Bahasa and English are different. First is grammar, only English uses it. Grammar is the system of a language in English. This is difficult for student in Indonesia to learn grammar because in Bahasa there is not grammar. We must practice and remember about grammar. If we are serious about learning an English language, we should study the correct grammar because grammar can help us to learn a language more quickly and more efficiently." For example, we study grammar with our friend that can teach grammar or study together. Because it is important to think of grammar as something that can help us, like a friend. When we understand the grammar (or system) of a language, we can understand many things ourselves, without having to ask a teacher or look in a book. The second is the different using hyphens. Hyphens are used to link words and parts of words. English uses hyphens to form adjectives & nouns from differing words, compounding them with the combined meaning (e.g. Life-giving = adj.). Bahasa uses hyphens for repetition of the same word or almost-same words (reduplication, expressing repetition or indicating things smaller than real size like toys). The researcher said that Indonesian students are hard to write an essay in English because English has grammar and different structure.
The third, the difficulty of learning English is lack of conversation using English. There are two reasons why students in Indonesia less conversation using English. First, they are not confident to speak English. The think that they cannot do before they are trying to speak English and many students in Indonesia usually feel ashamed to speak English. We must try to speak English even though in the first time we cannot to speak well but if we do it every day, our speech can be better. Second, there is no partner to speak English. This is very important to learn English in speaking because we do not know if our speech is right or not. We must invite our friends who knows about English to speak English together by pairs or groups. We can know how to speak right from our partners. The researcher concludes that speaking is the first important thing to know how the students have been overcome with English.
A nut shell, there are three causes that make Indonesian hard to learn English; less vocabulary, different structure, and less conversation. Therefore, do your best to learn English by listening, reading, studying grammar, and writing, and also be confidence and find a partner who want to speak English with us.
