Limiting Ownership of Vehicles

            In 2012 vehicles in Indonesia increase 12% a years. This percentage higher than 2010 which one the vehicles in that year’s still in 8%. Now our government makes a new regulation to limit owner ship of vehicles. There have positive and negative sides about regulation for limiting vehicles.

The positive side of limiting ownership of vehicles is decreasing traffic jam. If the governments limit vehicles in Indonesia, it will make traffic in Indonesia more comfortable. As we know the traffic in Indonesia is very bad because many people in Indonesia want have a private vehicle and this is one of the problems will make traffic in Indonesia become worst. Limiting vehicles can increase public transportation in Indonesia. We know that the government has done many ways to make traffic in Indonesia much better; the new ways is supplying many buses or free buses. Thus, the people do not use their private vehicles and use public transportation. According to government laws about minutemen traffic year 2011 number 32, the government use Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) for limiting ownership of vehicles and diverting citizen for use public transportation. The latest survey in 2013 shows that there are almost 96.2 million cars and motorcycle are owned by Indonesian people. That is a really big number, and almost all of them use it every day for their daily activity. Can you imagine how it is five or ten years from now if we cannot settle the increase of the ownership of private vehicle? Of course the number that you see from 2013 will become bigger.

The negative side of limiting ownership of vehicles is many people will use public transportation, but the fact is people still use private vehicles because public transportation in Indonesia is bad. For example; the facilities in Transjakarta buses such us the air conditioner is broken and the bath room cannot use by the passenger. But the serious problem is Indonesian people do not want to cooperate. Many people still use their private vehicles such as motorbike or car, this is the biggest problem for Indonesia government for their homework.When they say that there is not enough public transportation provided, the fact that we can see on the road, there are still so many public transportation that is rarely used by people.

To summarize, limiting ownership  of vehicles have positive and negative side; it will make traffic more better, increase public transportation, unsafely in public transportation. So, government should make a new regulation for limiting owner vehicles, but government should think the advantage is not only for government but also for the citizen too.
