Sex Education at Schools

Sex Education has taught in developed countries such as England, United States, and many other developed countries. Sex Education is taught at school as a common subject and has same level as math, plysics, etc. Sex Education consist of two programs, one is called Comprehension Sexually Education which is taught from kindergarten until high school. It teaches about masturbation, safe sex, body image, and more things that related to sex. Another one is Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage program, abstinence from all sexual behavior and it does not give information about masturbation, contraception, etc. Here, we will discuss about the positive sides and some negative effects of sex education at schools.
In the positive point of view of sex education there are several things that makes sex education become worth to be given to students at schools. The first one is to avoid unwanted or unintended pregnancy. Some teenagers do not know how to prevent pregnancy, they are just having fun without knowing what will happen next. This thing can lead to abortion or there is going to be abandoned baby because no one will take care of the baby. It does happen as a result of “the parent” or the couple who gave birth does not ready to be a parent. The second positive effect of sex education is teaching the awareness of sexually transmitted diseases (henceforth STD). Therefore, STD awareness will either motivate students’ way of thinking about sex or at least have protected sex.
Sex education is not only has positive effects but also has many negative effects. One of which is it will only make teenagers become curious to find out more about sex and want to try because teenagers have high sense of curiousity, eventually it would lead to free sex. Otherwise, sex is considered not to be talked in public. Furthermore, sex is not appropriate to talk about because it considered taboo. In addition, teenagers are not yet matured to handle such lesson and it might lead to bad effects of sex that sould have been avoided.
In conclusion, sex education gives some positive effects such as preventing unwanted or unintended pregnancy and abortion in the teenager age. It may also prevent STD chance to get when have sex. In the other side, some negative effects may happen, such as trigger curiousity to find out more about sex and wanted to try. In addition, sex is considered taboo and students in teenagers age are not yet matured to handle such lesson. I will give suggestion for the parents that they should have decide what subject matter that their children is going to learn.
