Reading novel should improve English through Reading

Learning English is not easy as flapping our hand because English language is different from Indonesia language. There are many differences between those languages such as word, vocabulary, grammatical, and so on. These basic problem has been major problematic for Indonesian in learning English. Teachers must be able to control and manage teaching learning process in class. The most important factors depend on the basic technique are used by the teacher. A good method can be useless in the hands of a teacher who does not know how to use it while a good teacher can be successful with a poor method. The teachers should apply more than one method to develop students’ English skills in order to improve their ability. Teachers should know how to be a good facilitator in creating and building an effective class. For the example, by provides media such as reading novel. Reading a novel can using as media to increase student’ brain.

The first is reading novel can improve student’s active brain. To illustrate, student read a novel and they will read each word with carefully and imagine what happen in the novel in his brain. According Josef Essberger if you reading English book such as a novel that means you are using your brain in a very active way. Reading a novel is a very active way process because when we read a novel we imagine a scene in your head and try to understand what the writer is trying to say, but many student to lazy read a novel, especially English novel book. Hopefully by applying reading a novel as media can help student’s active brain. On the other hand, some people might disagree because reading a novel wasting time to read it and student will forget with them another lesson. In addition, that is wrong because if student can manage their time to read and to study it will not wasting time and they will learn many word with reading novel.

The second is you can learn vocabulary in context. When you read usually you find a new word and you should continue read if the word in the novel easy for you, but if you find many new words, it means the level of the novel is too high and you should read something simpler. But if you find five new words per page, you will learn this vocabulary easily. Not only learn new words, but you see them being used naturally. In addition, try to read regularly and understand what the writer mean, read for fifteen minute a day when you want sleep or in the relax time and one hour in Sunday. However, people think this is too complicate, because reading novel making us confuse with the writer mean and we must write the book first and try to search in dictionary. But it is wrong, before read you must choose which one level want you read such as magazine or newspaper and if you pass that level you can continue with higher level such us abridge novel or novel.

The last is seeing correctly structure in English. When people write they usually use ‘correct’ English with a proper grammatical structure. This is not always true when people speak. So, by reading you see and learn grammatical English naturally. With know many word and structure student will know a lot of things about structure and students can get better achievement than before because they know how to read and write with the correct structure.

In conclusion, reading novel can be the solution for students who reluctant to study English in class. Improving students active brain, learn new vocabulary, and correctly structure is main purpose of reading. It is good for teacher to put on this method to avoid boring class that most of students do not pay attention to them. Therefore, by applying a little thing could bring effective ways of leaning.
