Keep School Uniform Stands as a Mandatory

Uniform is a part of social and cultural life which stands for a symbol of formality either in school life or work life. Yet, some people still believe that school uniform eliminates the student’s self expression due the fact that teenagers like to express their feeling through appearance that related to what they wear. However, school uniform has to be mandatory in the school as it prevents student from discrimination among the other students and makes students more focus on their main activity as a student.
First, wearing school uniform can prevent students from getting discrimination among the other students. Since they are wearing the same clothes, there will be no bragging about brand new clothes or brand new jeans that could make inconvenient for those who cannot afford it. Furthermore, by this applied school uniform their social statuses are only based on their intelligence and individual character not by their wealth. Equally important, there will be a gap between poor students and the wealthy students if there is no school uniform applied as mandatory in the school. Take for instance, the rich students can wear anything like branded clothes and they wear different clothes everyday while the poor students may only have two clothes for a week. This could decrease the self-confident of the poor students towards the wealthy students.
Second, school uniform will get rid all of the other focus which are not related with learning and studying activities. Those activities which may distract the student focus such as message on T-Shirt, tight fitting outfit, brand new expensive clothes, and so on. Those distractions may disturb student in the same way school would be a place for “fashion show”. This is contrary to the main function of school where school is a place to learn and get education, not the place for showing off their things that are unnecessary for studying purpose. Thus, school uniform is very important to enhance focus among the students
On the other hand, there are also some opposite opinions which disagree related to this issue; school uniform eliminates student’s self expression, it is not preventing student to be an unkind person at school. However, these assumption do not make any sense due the fact that they only thinking about the fashion and the common issue related to attitude. Firstly, some people believe that school uniform eliminates student’s self expression, but it is totally nonsense. As I mentioned before, A school is a place where the students learn and get education, not bragging about their parents’ wealth or showing off their branded clothes. Moreover, allowing students to wear whatever clothes they want to wear is not the only thing of self expression. Instead, they can express themselves individually by drawing, singing, writing a novel, or the other activities that related to enhance creativity in the school. Second, some people also believe that school uniform is not effective to prevent student to be an unkind person at school, but here we go again, being an unkind person is not the school’s choice but rather to their own characters. It is matter of environment they stand, the better environment they have the better character they become to be; it applies otherwise. For example, a boy who live in religious environment he/she will have a big chance to be a religious person, otherwise, a boy who live in rough environment like gangster area has a big chance to become like that.

In summary, wearing school uniforms are the best way to fight discrimination among the students and enhance their focus on studying in the school. Therefore, school uniform has to keep as a mandatory in the school. I can guarantee that the students after graduation will miss the moment they wore the uniform. You can wear your uniform whenever you want after you graduated, but you cannot bring back those memories.
